sir,
Rec?
26.MAY 081 Referring to Sir Matthew the Tetter to
Commodore Williams of the 10th. April, 1907, and subsequent
correspondence with Admiral Sir Arthur Moore on the subject of
the repair of Sailors' Graves in the Happy Valley Cemeteries,
I have the honour to state that the Admiralty have enquired
whether this Government would be prepared to undertake the
maintenance of these graves at an estimated annual expenditure
of £17.
2.
This Government maintains the graves of
civilians, and the Military graves are under the care of the
Military Chaplains, the cost of their upkeep being defrayed out
of "Our Comrades' Graves" Fund, raised for the purpose.
I shall be glad to learn whether the Naval
Authorities can see their way to institute a similar fund for
the upkeep of Sailors' Graves.
I have etc.,
